INTERVIEW PREPARATION

Before The Interview
Do as much research as possible! An obvious starting point is the company’s website but it’s also worth ‘googling’ the company name to find out any recent news articles on the company and try to find out information about the company’s main competitors.

What that company does?
  • Company background - When were they established? How many employees do they have? What is the company structure? Where are their offices located?
  • Company type - What do they do? Details on the product/service that they offer. What sectors do they cover?
Why you would like to work for that company?
This could relate to the size, growth plans and career progression for you with that, the attraction to that sector, reputation, earning potential. Company USPs; what separates them from the rest?

The best prepared candidates would have put together at least 15 questions to ask the interviewer:

5 on the role including training, day to day duties, career progression, progress of people in the company at present or who has just gone before you in same role. What would I be doing on a day-to-day basis? How will I be targeted/appraised?

5 on the company including their turnover, background, plans for future, culture and personalities there, how they differ from competitors, market presence. How is the division/company structured? What are the company’s plans for expansion?

5 on the interviewer including, what attracted them to the company, if a manager, how they manage and motivate their team, their progression there, why they enjoy it. What attracted you to the company?

When waiting for your interview, don’t worry too much - it will all be over before you know it so don’t get yourself nervous just before it!
